Abortion: Should it be legalised in Malaysia?

  1. Thilaga: I think that abortion should be legalized in Malaysia to decrease the cases of baby dumping. I think that the mother's rights always superceeds the rights of the baby, thus she has the choice to abort the baby. But still, this process should only be carried out after thorough discussion with family and the consultation of the medical officers.

  2. Teng Peng Hui:Every baby is a living organism.I disagree with legalizing abortion in our country. If you want to abort the baby, why were you doing something that will produce a baby. This is a killing act. Many consequences ensued with this act, for example, the pre-marital sexual activity among young people will become more severe. Even for those unfortunate victims of rape cases who became pregnant. They shouldn't abort the baby too.Even though they hate the baby so much, but the babies are innocent. They can't choose who to become their parents. And they have the right to breath in this wonderful world. Therefore, if those victims really cannot take care of the children, they should send them to orphanage or other place, at least this will give those babies a chance to live

  3. In my opinion, abortion should be legalised in Malaysia. This is to decrease the cases of baby dumping by unwed mother and infanticide in our country. If cases of dumping increses, government will need to provide a place for those unwanted babies.Besides that,if those single mothers as young as 12 to 18 years old are forced to keep their babies, they can never give them a good life, education and love as they have no income and are mentally immature .It is too cruel to let the rape victims who are being hurt mentally and physically to give birth and raise up the babies who will remind them of the sad event that they have gone through. Moreover, children of single mum or unhappy family are much more likely to grow up as criminals.

  4. For my opinion, abortion should not be legallized. First of all, human sanctity. The worth of a Human's life cannot be compared to anything, even gold. It is precious The chance of a human to live and enjoy this world is given by the god as a gift. Thus, no one has the right to take this away. Abortion obviously is an act that snatch away the little soon-to-be baby's life. He or she doesn't even have the chance to open his or her eyes to see the amazing world. Is this principally right? I think no. Besides that, legallize abortion will send a wrong message to the society especially teenagers. This move is telling the society that' well, it's ok to get pregnant and abort it the next second'. So, cases like pre-marital sex will certainly increase. Abortion should not be legallized.

  5. Tan Jie Hui: I think that abortion should not be legalized. This is due to the fact that every baby should have the right to choose whether he or she wants to live or not.A mother doesn't have the right to decide the fate of a baby.If a couple doesn't want to have a child, they should have taken preventive measures to avoid getting pregnant in the first place. The act of abortion is pretty much equivalent to murder. If we have seen the process of abortion, we would know that it is cruel and inhumane as the body parts of the baby is broken into pieces by scalpels. Why would anyone do such thing to an innocent being. Therefore, if a couple decided not to take care of their newly born child, the least they can do is to just let other responsible people to adopt the child or send the baby to an orphanage, rather than killing them with no mercy.

  6. Thilaga: I agree with Anne Yee. Not only those who are raped have to bear the responsibility of raising the child, which will forever be a living memory of the unfortunate event, but those who are living in poverty or who cannot provide for the baby will also struggle to create a better living environment for the baby.
Furthermore, if the pregnancy is causing health problems to the mother or the baby, abortion should be carried out to save the mother's life.

  7. I disagree with thilaga saying that the legallized abortion should only be carried out after discuss with family members. Normally, abortion will only be taken by those who get pregnant accidentally. Will a loving couple which longed for a child abort their baby? No. I doubt those who accidentally got pregnant will discuss with their family members, instead i think they will just abort the fetus and go home like there's nothing happen since it is legal!

  8. Peh Ge: But how about in the case of unwanted pregnancy such as in the case where the person asking for the abortion is impregnated after an unfortunate incident such as rape. In such cases, the victim might be so traumatised she cannot make any clear decisions and here is where family members come in to aid her in making up her mind.

  9. Lim Suk Yik: i think abortion should be legalized in Malaysia. This is because The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 20 million unsafe abortions take place each year, most in countries where abortion is illegal. If abortion is not legalized in our country, woman will be forced to seek abortion at the hands of untrained people and in doing so their lives are in danger. For those who survive abortion, they might be facing long-term damage or disease.

  10. Yi Ying: In my opinion, i think that abortion should not be legalised in Malaysia. I agree with peng hui that every baby should be given a chance to live and no one including the mothers have the rights to take away their lives. The mothers often involve in pre-marital sex without even thinking twice about the consequences and what rights do they have to make decision for their babies that they should not be bornt to this world. Abortion should not be legalized so that women would think twice on whether they can afford to raise and give a healthy growing environment to their babies. If they want to avoid having babies, they should have practised safe sex by using contraception. I disagree that with only the legalization of abortion then we can reduce the cases of baby dumping as this is not the best solution to the problem. Both acts of baby dumping and abortion are equally immoral and inhumane. Young women should be given the awareness of the seriousness of pre-marital sex and the impacts that it would impose in the long term.

  12. Lim Suk YIk:I agree with yi ying saying that abortion is immoral. However, I insist that abortion should be legalized in our country. This is because if the mothers are not allowed to abort their babies at licensed hospital, their lives might be harmed. Mothers’ lives can be saved by sacrificing the unborn babies.

  13. Ng Yee Ying: In my opinion, abortion should not be legalized in Malaysia. I agree with Anne Yee that raising up a baby born out of wedlock will remind the mother of the sad event that she had gone through. However, the baby is innocent and has the right to live in this world. There is nothing to be blamed of. Even if you're raped and got pregnant, life still goes on. One should make the right choice considering her health status. The side effects of abortion are life-threatening, including cancer, heart disease, and even death during surgery. Instead of putting oneself at these risks, it is a better choice to bring the baby up for adoption, since there are many couples who cannot biologically conceive and are waiting to adopt children.

  14. I understand what Suk Yik trying to say. In some specific conditions, when the pregnancy continues, the mother might die. If the mother dies, the child will die too. However, if the pregnancy is ended through abortion, the child will die, but the mother might live. In both instances, the child will die. However, there is a huge difference between "will" and "might". Even though the life of the mother might be threatened by continued pregnancy, there are still many alternative ways to save the mother since medical science has made such tremendous progress nowadays. Thus, for me, I think that abortion is not necessarily the best the solution because death is permanent and there is no looking back. The mother will regret deeply what she has done and she has to live forever with the fact that she killed an innocent child. It is already bad enough that we have murders everywhere. However, for a baby to die in his or her own mothers hands is not understandable and acceptable by me. What I do not understand is people kill everyday but get put in prison, but a woman goes to an abortion clinic and kills her own child and it is called her right? We preach "Save the Wildlife", but why can’t we save our own children from a cruel and painful death? The baby is a part of both the parents too. Therefore, emotionally I would say just banned abortion in Malaysia.

  15. I disagree with anyone who says abortion is inhumane. If it is inhumane to abort a baby, would it be a humane thing then to do if,a girl who accidentally got herself pregnant and who, is not prepared for the birth of the child but kept it anyway and later on gives up the child for adoption? How would you feel, if you are a 'dumped' child, knowing you were being dumped by your birth mother before? Can you accept that fact openhearted, not at all curious to find out, who are your actual parents? How would you feel? Will you live happily ever after and not at all disturbed by this fact, or will you be forever haunted by the fact that you were indeed a unwanted baby before?Sometimes we just have to put ourselves in someone else's shoes and think, how would we feel, if we were the victim??If we have no right to take an "innocent life" away, or so you claim, we are even more out of the right to create a life in which, he/she is very likely to suffer.

Furthermore!!the fetus grows inside the mother's womb and therefore, she has every right to decide whether she wants to keep the baby and as such, no one, and no one else, have the right to interfere with her choice.thank q.

  16. stephanie : HI EVERYONE =] I want to point out that unwanted pregnancies should not be solely blamed on women as it could be the mens' fault as well.
Now, in my thought, abortion should not be legalized in Malaysia. Firstly, when you think about abortion, the only one word that strikes your mind would be babies. Why would someone on earth has the heart to abort such wonderful creature of God? Well, this question leaves a tinkle in the mind.
This could be done by under aged girls who had been raped or by 'accident' as in sexual intercourse before marriages. A question arise is it due to lack of sex education in schools or is it lack of moralities in our current generation.
As Ann Reena,Peng Hui and Yee Ying said that we have no right to take an innocent life away. There are many times where married couples are so frustrated as they could not conceive after trying out several ways. This could be a good opportunity that 'these' unwanted babies should not be killed instead to be given away. Wouldn't this be a happy ending for both sides?
Talking of dumping babies, one should think that the baby is already in the mother's womb for approximately nine months and finally when it enters this beautiful world, he or she is not given a chance to live life to the fullest? Is this fair? Is it worth to waste the nine months carrying a baby in one's womb and just leave it to decay into dust? Definitely, NO!
One should be in her right mind that babies do not appear in the world just like that. It is God's fabulous creation that it deserves to live. On the baby side, it is such a pity and waste not to even get to know his or her mother when born.
Hence, one should think before you act. Think wisely and act fruitfully. Let's have a civilized future generation! =]

  17. Lim Suk YIk: I agree with Ann saying that mothers have every right to decide whether they want to keep the babies or not. Women are, obviously, known human persons. They make up the majority of known human persons. Human persons have rights that an embryo or fetus does not have until its personhood can be established. Therefore, until the fetus is old enough to have rights of its own, the woman's decision to have an abortion takes precedence over the interests of the fetus.

  19. Chia hui:First of all, I totally agree with kee. The worth of a Human's life cannot be compared to anything, even gold. It is precious. So, In my opinion, abortion should not be legalised in Malaysia. Every baby is a life. Every organism in this world have their right to stay alive, and this include mammals, birds, and others animals too. Then , how about human? The answer should be yes. We always ask people don’t force us to do something that we don’t like. But still, some of the people still don’t even give a chance to the unborn life to voice out their views o decisions. If you want to abort the baby, why don’t you take the preventive measures before sex intercourse happen?
On the other hand, I also agree with anne yee. It is too cruel to let the rape victims to give birth and raise up the babies who will remind them of the sad event that they have gone through. However, is it a truth that without the baby, they will not recall the sad event for the whole life? I don’t think so. Human brain is a ‘hard drive’ that store all the memories especially the profound memory. This mean that the victim will think back what had happened to her even though the baby is not present. Therefore, abortion is not a way to resolve the problem but it is a way for the unfortunate women or girl to escape from something that they have to face.
Besides, I disagree with ann reena saying that the child will suffer after he or she being born as nobody will care for the child. Firstly, the child should feel happy as he or she has the chance to have a look on this world. Next, parents are not the person that give life to us but parents should be the people that take care of us since we are born. Moreover, although he or she is a dumped child, the one should not feel shame with one’s background. Nevertheless, the parents should feel shame on what have they done towards their own child.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It is easier said than done."Should not be shamed with one's background"??Imagine you are the the dumped baby grown up into a adult, not shamed maybe you are but, surely you do mind and are at least a bit sad and hurt that your birth parents did this to you?we are all only human and surely all of us has feelings. You can't just say that we shouldn't feel so and so, and we really didn't.
Moreover, legalizing abortion means that pregnant mothers will have a chance to choose. A right to choose. A basic human right that no one can interfere with. It's not that she will definitely abort her baby.TQ.

  21. Ding Yee Sing: Malaysia is a Muslim country. Malaysia forbids any abortions after the third trimester.Currently in Malaysia, 38 out of every 1,000 women aged between 15 and 49 years old go for abortion in Malaysia and the rate of illegal abortions is 0.1% or 500 per 500,000 live births yearly.
In my opinion, abortion should not be legalized. I agree hands down with Chia Hui the gift of life cannot be taken away from anyone, we have no right to choose who should live or not.
In the countries where abortion is illegal, there are thousands of women dead, millions who have been seriously injured, a great increase in cerebral palsy and breast cancer, millions of women who agonize over the abortions they had, and general unrest and conflict in society. Legalizing abortion does NOT make it safe.
In fact, after the 3rd trimester babies are capable of surviving outside of the womb. Anyone who has an "abortion" after 3rd trimester is a murderer, including the mother and the doctor.
Unwanted pregnancies in unwed mothers, particularly teenagers, are difficult to handle in our society. Youth must be more responsible, in the sense if they feel they are sexually active, they should understand the consequences and be prepared to take the risk, although I don’t think that is the right attitude. Abortion is not the answer and this is where sex education is important for teenagers. If abortion is legalized, many would think it’s an easy way out, as contraception. But they actually don't realise what they are in for. They are desperate people who try to solve the problem with desperate measures.
